When The Best Gets Better: McLaren MP4-12C

Currently the McLaren MP4-12C is one of the most desirable supercars on the market today. It combines superb engineering, classic style and out-of-this-world performance. Its arrival has caused a serious stir amongst the established supercar brigade thanks to sheer brilliance. Now, McLaren has done a considerable nip and tuck which’ll give its peers an even bigger headache.


McLaren Automotive has announced that there will be significant upgrades for the 2013 model. These upgrades range from interior to performance. It’s a simple philosophy and the new MP4-12C is going to be faster, greener and more comfortable.

Let’s start with the fun stuff. Power is now up to 453kW which is an 18kW increase thanks to engine remapping. The car is now faster in the acceleration stakes yet according to McLaren, there’s no change in fuel consumption figures. The gearbox is also the subject of some performance enhancing modifications which aids responsiveness.

The McLaren MP4-12C’s Intake Sound Generator (ISG) system, which controls the amount of engine intake sound heard in the cabin, is now programmable across three levels in all three driving modes allowing the driver to select the amount of twin turbocharged V8 noise to enter the cabin.

Even the McLaren badge gets a little tweak and is now available in new colour combinations. If you’re a fan of going wild with the custom interior options, then you’re in for a treat. There’s a new wheel design for the MP4-12C as well as the option to choose from a selection of wheel finishes. A new paintjob (Volcano Yellow) makes an appearance and this is going to be a personal favourite.
